Netsuke en japonais se prononce netske.

Netsuke, attribut masculin, s’est surtout développé durant la période Edo, période coercitive pendant laquelle le shogunat Tokugawa interdit tout signe extérieur de richesse, tant au niveeau vestimentaire que pour l’usage de la dorure.

Netsuke, en ivoire, en bois dur, en coquillege… devint donc à la mode d’un point de vue utilitaire et d’affichage de richesses car un très bel objet pouvait demander plusieurs semaines de travail par artisan compétent et renomé.

Netsuke reste indissociable de l’inro, boîte à pillules, et d’autes objers à suspendre au obi.

Il est à noter que le tatouage devint également un signe de classe car visible de tous dans les bains publics, avant bien sûr… leur interdiction...

Netsuke, made of ivory, hardwood, shell, etc., therefore became fashionable from a utilitarian point of view and for displaying wealth because a very beautiful object could require several weeks of work by a competent and renowned craftsman.

Netsuke remains inseparable from the inro, a pill box, and other objects to hang on the obi.

It should be noted that tattooing also became a sign of class because it was visible to everyone in public baths, before of course... their ban...
